| | | 32" Buffalo Pipe w/ Hardwood Stem | The total length of this large ceremonial pipe is just a hair shy of 32" long. The Sacred Catlinite (commonly called Pipestone) bowl measures 7-1/4" long and it is 3-7/8" tall. It is the largest buffalo pipe we have had for sale on this site. This pipe is in the shape of a traditional buffalo effigy style pipe.
This Pipe will make an outstanding ceremonial Pipe for someone. The stem has good draw and the bowl is drilled out to allow plenty of room for tobacco if the buyer intends to use it for ceremony.
This buffalo pipe is made out of a piece of the stone that is very beautiful and unique. It is mostly dark red, but there are white lines, blue markings, and a couple of areas that are slightly lighter colored than the rest of the pipe.
It seems natural to make a peace pipe with a buffalo on it. The buffalo provided every single neccessity to the Plains Indians from their clothing to their food to their lodging and even provided some of the things they needed for tools. It was critical to their very survival.
There is some extra-ordinary craftsmanship in this pipe including details showing the tail, the mouth, the horns, and the matted fur on the buffalo's back. The eventual owner of this pipe is sure to be extremely pleased with their purchase!
The stem is made out of a very attractive hardwood. (this is the 1st time we've used this type of wood to make a stem and it turned out very nice) I do NOT know what this type of wood is. It was gifted to me by a neighbor shortly before his death. I do have more of it available, otherwise it wouldn't be for sale with this pipe. The stem has been left undecorated so the eventual caretaker of it can decorate it with items that are meaningful to them. If you purchase this pipe and want us to put some beadwork or something similar on the stem, we'll be happy to do that for you.
The pipe is signed by Hapan.
